There's this guy I went to university with. We weren't super close, but we hung out in the same circles. He's got a heavy duty meth problem.

He did go to a rehab a couple of years ago and got 7 months clean before he started using again.

Since then, he lost his job, couldn't get an apartment, so moved in with a mutual friend, essentially living in the living room. The mutual friend was trying to help out, so wasn't charging him any rent, which just meant that any money he got, was spent on drugs.

This guy is HIV positive, and has gone from smoking to shooting up. Our mutual friend finally kicked him out last week, being tired of enabling him and of being used, not to mention being afraid of coming home and finding him OD'd in the living room.

The really sad part of this is, this guy is otherwise really smart. He has a master's degree in health administration. He once had a great career. He's not a nice guy anymore, although I'm pretty sure that's the meth addict talking.

We figure he'll be dead in 6 months.

Why am I writing this? Partly it's a reminder to myself of how bad it can get if I ever start drinking again, and partly as a message to others on how destructive drugs can be.

So if you're using - I urge you to quit before you destroy your life and yourself.
