oh no! Ok... get a splint ...either a sports mouth piece or I think in some pharmacies they sell a thinner one... you need to try and rest the jaw at night and if it's out of place the muscles won't rest ... and eventually the joint will wear and you'll need surgery.

Don't chew chewy foods... limit your foods (my jaw was off it's hinges for 2 years after my accident before they approved surgery...and it took another year of physical therapy before the surgeon could do the surgery I learned the dominant color in a blender was green! ) I still cannot do really hard foods, candies, and "foods that chew back" meaning those that are strong spongey that bounce back to be chewed more (like some meats, and soft bread crust of all things) ugh! Too much on the jaw.

Can you use ice? I still do ice massages at times.... ice packs are nice but to really numb the jaw joints (do both sides) I fill a paper cup half full of water and then peal the top down and sitting with a towel or in the tub.. slowly rub the ice on the jaw joints (TMJs)... be careful not to rub it with the paper (or styrofoam) cup as it will really tear your skin. It feels like a cold burn...push through that (I did as it was the same level as the jaw pain anyway) and then you'll have relief from (because of) the numbness.

If you have someone who has a TENS unit, see if they will help you try it out... even 15 minutes of being pain-free are worth it.... if it helps then maybe you can get your doctor to help you get one? Wonderful invention.

Do jaw exercises...and massage those muscles as well. I cannot do this as I cannot open my mouth far and the PT has to do this for me generally. But the outside muscles I can exercise. Facial Exercises for TMJ | Your Healthy Body - Jillian Michaels
See if you can find some videos on how to do this properly...

it will all help....

Now about treating the migraines you still get... ginger works well--in any form. The first I heard of this all we had was the spice of ground ginger and we made a tea... (someone had stolen my pain med at the airport and my SIL called her mom for a remedy)... the ginger didn't dissolve much but I drank the tea and the pain was so limited I slept for a bit and rested. I still carry ginger capsules in my purse, just in case I forget to bring my zomig zmt med.

You might also look up calming herbs... valerian, passion flower to name two. These will help ease the muscle tension. Call your doctor and tell them what you want to try...

I pray you'll find a dentist that will help you.
