It is hard. I'm there now.
Don't overdo it. If you are taking small steps, and maybe for a day or two you are just too drained to do anything, it is OK to rest up and "regroup" afterward. Don't feel bad if a step is not taken, even a small step backward from time to time. Instead try to force yourself to focus on the progress. That's the hardest with depression. You could win a Nobel prize, fly home from Sweden, and take a nap. A depressed person will spend the next few days thinking they've "failed" because they took a nap. Keep that Nobel Prize up on the desk where you can see it all day. Put it in a spot where other people will notice it and ask you about it. Remember how well you are doing. Sometimes that means just recognizing that you are surviving.
