I don't know if this is the right place for this, but anyways...

I have a gay friend in my school's Gay-Straight Alliance, and he asked me to join so I did. However, I later found out that my parents are huge homophobes and do not want me to have any affiliation with gay people whatsoever. I am considering quitting the Alliance because I have to lie to my parents every time I go to one of their events. But at the same time, I don't want to ruin my friendship with the gay friend because we are working together on one of my projects. I don't want it to seem like I am unwilling to help him while I expect him to help me. But I really think I should quit the Alliance.

What do you guys think I should do?
