My T is in private practice located within a group practice if that makes any sense. He is located in an office with 3 pdocs and a slew of therapists, but he isn't a partner in the practice. He pays rent and fees for management/secretarial staff etc.
My pdoc, on the other hand, is co-owner of his group practice which contains 6 or 7 pdocs and numerous therapists.
I prefer than they are working within groups because they have staff to handle the paperwork, scheduling, billing end and when it comes to dealing with me, it is all about my care. It frees them up to answer phone calls quickly and spend more time doing the "work" of their profession instead of the "paperwork". Also, having my pdoc in a group has come in very handy. Even if he is unavailable, another pdoc in the practice is ALWAYS available in an emergency, and that has happened a few times. Someone ALWAYS gets on the phone with me immediately, and they are very good about contacting my pdoc if they think some change needs to be made (and then he gets right back to me at that point). They have a good system that works.
