Your post rings so true for me, I am in the same boat.

The one difference being that I am super productive when high. When I get high I can completely focus until I start coming down. Then I just get high again and carry on working. I can keep this up for days! I also work to a much higher standard when high as well, thinking in much more detail and better at visualising concepts (I am a software engineer so this helps a lot). Drugs effect everyone differently I guess but my experience with quitting is identical to yours.

I think that it is possible that you use the weed to self-medicate and that it has some beneficial effects for you. That's probably why you find it hard to quit and always go back to it, for the relief it gives you. I know that is the case for me, not just to do with keeping my focus up but to do with anxiety and mood swings, it just keeps a lid on things. When I try to quit I loose control and either get depressed or go manic, and terrible insomnia. Every time.

There are so many positives to smoking for me and by the sound of it for you too, the problem is the negative side effects. For you your low productiveness, for me I withdraw socially and while I get a lot of work done, I don't feel like I am progressing much in other areas of my life.

The reality of the situation is that we need to find another way of coping, one that doesn't come with these associated problems.

I actually recently quit a few days ago. I have tried to quit so many times, with varying levels of failure. I've managed a few months off before but always inevitably come back to it. I am really determined to be successful this time. That's actually why I came to this forum, on the first day off I was screwing so badly that I realised that I need to come to terms with the fact that I have underlying problems which I need to deal with if I am going to make this a success.

I get paid tomorrow and am going to buy some lithium orotate pills which I hope will help. I am cyclothymic, perhaps bipolar, so they seem like the best option for me, as mood stabilizers. Your profile says you deal with ADHD and depression so I'm not sure what would be the best option for you.

Either try to identify what it is specifically that stops you from being able to quit and find something that will at least make the transition a little easier, or speak to a specialist. I have no experience with speaking to specialists so I can't advise whether they would have any expertise with this, maybe someone else can comment on that? Perhaps there is someone else on this forum that has dealt with quitting smoking weed with ADHD? Are you currently on any medication? Maybe it would just be a case of upping the dosage slightly while you quit smoking weed and then over time bring the dosage back down.

I am just speculating, to be honest I really don't know for sure what will work because I am trying to achieve the same thing!
