When I have too many thoughts going on to sleep I distract myself by reading, getting involved in someone else's thoughts but that makes me tired and eventually, thinking of the book and its characters I can go to sleep. TV/movies don't quite do it for me because they do too much "visualizing" and don't make you work at the story like a book does.
