I was just recently diagnosed as well. At first I was like OMG. I'm 44 and have had bipolar II symptoms all my life but because it was relatively moderate (except when I was a teenager - which was written off as being a drama queen) no one picked up on it. It took a major depressive episode for me to be accurately diagnosed. I still have moments where I try to convince myself I'm not bipolar just severely depressed. It's hard to accept that I'm mentally ill as both my biological father and his mother are bipolar. I never wanted to be like them but they have I while I have II. I think I'm on the right meds so hopefully I'll be feeling semi normal soon.
