I am sorry, but I really don't agree with the post above. I have been diagnosed with TTM and it's a form of mental illness - that's right, an ILLNESS. Illnesses can be cured. Remember that.

I pull when I am relaxed, sad, stressed, angry, bored etc. All the time. I have done it for many years now and just recently I started to see a T about this. She introduced me to cognitive behavioural therapy, which I believe is the right way to work with this. Not with distractions like lotions etc, but by changing the way you think. I am now aware of "risky" situations for me, and when I am aware I usually don't pull as much.

If you want to talk to someone about this I would really like to try to help. I am going through the same thing as you and I know how it feels. The shame, the mixed emotions. But the most important thing to remember is that this is an ILLNESS. Like getting a cold or whatever. These thoughts and actions are not you. You will get through this!
