Really like the Lamictal too. It is scary taking a new medication, though. The question I ask my doctor to clear my mind is, are there any irreversible side effects of this drug and what's the likelihood?
My first priority in taking the meds was not to have the police "escort" me to the psych ward again. So I was willing to roll the dice on the possible weight gain, high cholesterol, permanent effects like diabetes, or very unlikely ones like the one you'll be presented with Lamictal. You need to feel comfortable with what it means when the dice roll snake eyes or lucky 7.
Of the medicines in my roster, I've had no side effects with Lamictal. For me, it's been the only one. Your chemistry is unique to you as is your risk threshold. Finding the right medication stack is a lot of trial and error. It took me a few too and you sometimes need to tweak them. But it's priceless compared to being confined to a locked hospital ward thinking they were going to kill you and hide your body.
