From what my doctor has told me it does/can have an anti-depressant effect in some patients. I too have rapid cycle and because I had 2 manic/suicide attempt (which can happen is some people) due 2 different ad's they won't give me any ad's anymore and Lamictal helps with the depression without shooting me into extreme manic episodes.
