Not everyone has the weight gain problem. Actually my son has a hard time maintaining his weight. He has to force himself to eat.
Normal weight for my son is probably mid-140's. He went into the hospital very underweight at 116. He came out on 35 mg of Zyprexa. He did gain weight, but he needed to. His pdoc began slowly lowering the dose almost immediately. My son's weight topped out at about 165 then started going back down as the dose came down. He eventually was back down to the 130's when he decided to start making himself eat more. Right now he's in the mid- to upper-140's and on a 2.5 mg dose.
He's having a blood test on Saturday to check for diabetes. It's his first and he's been on olanzapine for over two and a half years.
I guess my point is not everyone has those side effects.
