I am the same with movies too, an not just books on ptsd or articles, but something can trigger in a regular book i'm reading and that will stop me dead in my tracks, it's rare that it gets to that point though. But it does happen.
It takes time to let yourself out of the whole and to not be stuck there, took me 8 years to get out of it, and I have no intention on going back, guess time will tell.
I'm sure you will get where I am it takes time, and yes it is very scary, I was terrified of it. But it is worth it in the end to not have as many triggers, nightmares stopping, body memories at a minimal or gone. It's a kind of freedom.
