I have to say, after having MANY poor doctors that do not "do thier homework" that a little legal watchdogging is not a bad thing!!!
Not everyone is good at advocating for themselves and not everyone has easy internet access, so it is really up to the doctor to inform patients of any risks. (Patients who are able to ask questions should do so, but it can be a game of 20 questions with a dr in a hurry)
Late last year, I had a dr. leave me a voice mail at work saying I needed my gallbladder removed. It was given to me on FRI so I did not get the message til Monday. I was actually in a pretty acute state so I was PISSED
I think I am fairly knowledgable and I can google symptoms with the best of them, but I don't always know what to ask my DR.
Lawyers are some of the few people left with any incentive to look out for the consumer.
