Does anyone else have that pressing urge that they need to contribute something that will further mankind or advance humanity, even if it is in some minor way? I know that on some level we all contribute in our own way at our jobs, however I feel a more direct need than just that, for what I guess would be called a scientific contribution i.e. the most "fundamental" type. I'm aware that I'm no Einstein, Newton, or Tesla, which makes it even worse as it's very difficult to make even a mediocre (yet still original) contribution to mankind (or the scientific community).
I'd obviously prefer if the contribution was something that advanced humanity's understanding in some small way that at least helps us push forward or provides some impetus. Ironically, this is a rather frustrating feeling because it usually takes an incredibly talented person or a near-genius to make even a small, yet significant (and original) contribution to science. Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone gets this feeling and whether they just ignore it or learn to run with it in some way?
