I made it a game with my son. He's very dramatic so, Id get into character and make it a big deal like yelling " we have to hurry, how fast can you run! Can you make it to the potty, oh no!" Lol believe it or not it worked and this was when he just turned three. Try not to make it a task for him, they will associate the potty with being bord from sitting there.
