That almost sounds like they were telling you to "snap out of it," which of course is ignorant. If we could just turn it off and on wouldn't we do it? I do believe however that we can make it worse for ourselves if we don't do some simple things to mediate it, such as listening to music, exercising, or thinking in positive ways instead of allowing our negative thoughts to go around in our heads endlessly. I try not to listen to people who don't really understand what depression is like to live with. I know that I am doing the best I can today, and certainly doing better than yesterday or a few years ago. I am proud of that and feel a little more hope that I am strong enough to continue growing. Depression isn't easy that is for sure. Sometimes I feel like I have to force myself to keep moving, and sometimes I just want to stay in bed and say forget all the expectations for me today. So, I know how you feel and I know it isn't easy. I just try to enjoy the good days when they come even if that isn't often. I hope you are able to have good days once in a while.
