To get rid of your tools is a big step. I did it a couple of weeks ago. I was afraid the first night but felt kind of free since then..but I didn't give them up until I knew for sure I had been able to cope a few times using different strategies. The impulse can be there for a long time, it's an addiction. But you can fight this. Make a list of things to do that can keep you occupied until the impulse passes. Journaling what is triggering you has really helped me. But I do still struggle at times, but so far, so good.
