Get behind wanting to learn the information for yourself and when you are doing the tests and quizzes, remind yourself you are doing the best you can and it will be okay no matter what. School is not about the grades, it is about you and what you learn for you. An algebra problem is just a "word" problem; it is like writing a paper. You find the structure, the topic sentence, and then put everything neatly in order, fill in the blanks, and you get the final "answer".
There are word problems all around us, like your situation: you have two courses, algebra and art, algebra is giving you anxiety in test-taking and quizzes and art requires learning proportion and composition.
In algebra, concentrate on the quizzes and they will make the test-taking easier because you will have done the quizzes well? Write on each quiz when you get it back what it was quizzing, re-do the problems you got wrong until you understand them so you literally cannot get them wrong again on tests. Make a list of the formulas, rules, and processes and flashcards or something (or just take a large piece of paper and "draw" their relationships or write their story in words or rhyme).
For art, carry around a small sketch book and start sketching items all around you, all the time. If you eat a certain place in a certain chair, draw an item and then change chairs to get the item from another perspective :-) Draw easier, square items at first like bookshelves and tables and then work on straight chairs then couches :-) Draw a picture of the picture on the wall
