Bad thinking I know, but not about the light...however I'm not sure how to reply to your post. I know your trying to be supportive, but when I go outside at night I would like to look at the sky or just sit alone in the dark and not see a glaring light shine in my face and reflecting off the house, ground and everything else. (and no I can't look from another side of the house because one of these lights can be seen from all sides of my house) The light I am talking about that really makes me angry is the 175 watt mercury light that is everywhere. Search for it and you will find the many problems it creates.
