I've heard the same things. Medication tends to have a not-so-savory effect on child and adolescent bodies. I'm fifteen and I've never taken any meds (and I don't plan on doing so) because of some of the horror stories I've heard. Medication alters your brain chemistry, blocks certain things, frees others, etc. and doing artificial things like that when the brain is still developing is not a good idea.
I would say try to wean off the medication a little bit if that's okay, eventually try to get off of it completely. What are you taking? You say anti-depressants with a plural. Are you taking multiple meds?
Instead of medication, try counseling or therapy and browse the internet for tips. About 1 in 5 other people out there know what you're going through and each person should have a tip or two to share. Personally, I like exercise.
