Xanax and benxos build up in the system very fast meaning most get a high tolerance quickly. My pdoc said xanax has the highest rate of addiction. She put me on valium (or klonopin is a choice). That being said, I started on .5 mg and a after about 6 yrs later I was getting a script for 5 mg of valium bc my tolerance was higher. The problem with taking more than is prescribed is that when you really need them they usually will not work.
