I just finished a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction course, which is based on the work of Kabat-Zinn. I learned a lot and the people interacted in ways that were profoundly moving. People really did change. I am so glad I did it. If you have a chance to take one, I really highly recommend it. There is a book by a meditation teacher in my town called the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Workbook (Bob Stahl) and it also has CDs. Good stuff.
