Don't give up. My mother held my illness against me too, but eventually she came around to understanding that I can't help it.
It is okay to not give a s***. I don't give a crap most days and I survive. You have to do what's right for you. Take care of yourself first, then deal with others.
And what your ex thinks of you is irrelevant. That's why he's your ex!
