Thanks so much to everyone for standing by me thru this trying time. It's so stressful, and I can use all the support I can get.

About 12 employees or so were let go today from the Fremont office. It was done very discreetly. So much so that most people didn't even know it had happened. There were one or two middle-management people cut loose, but it was primarily employees from departments where they felt they were over staffed. Funny thing is that they have retained the services of some contractors and temps. I figured they would be the first to go.

I went to the HR dept near the end of the day and asked if the fact that I had not been talked to meant that my job was safe. I needed to know, and felt like I deserved that much. I was told that they still needed to discuss the importance of my position with my Manager (who is on vacation, and has no idea any of this is happening), and then decide if should be retained. But I was told off the record that withh the new products coming up to be released, I have a better chance of staying than being let go.

So anyway, I'll have to go thru another weekend before I find out for sure. Frankly, I've been thinking that if the company continues to not be profitable, it would be in my and my family's best interests to be looking for another job anyway. I really do love this job, it challenges me and brings out the best in me. But I don't want to live in fear of losing my job every quarter if we don't make our goal financially. I need to have some degree of security.
