I've been with my shrink for over 5 years now. We work intensively so I feel that a gift is fine. He accepts gifts and seems to appreciate the thought behind it. I'm just giving a book about the kind of work he does because he is in several reading groups and we have had discussions about "theory" before. It just seemed thoughtful and appropriate. And he is one of the few people I know that like Christmas.
