At a time in my life I was too, reluctant but when I weighed the benefits vs the miserable feeling and depression I was dealing with, I opted for the meds and therapy too, I find such meds are best be prescribed by a pdoc and also an evaluation first from a pdoc, GP's aren't specialists in the field of psychiatry, the pdocs are.
Give meds a try, if you don't like them after awhile you can go off of them with the pdocs okay, maybe try a different one, then in time you may go back to just vitamins a day. . .that is what I am working with my pdoc but we have to go very slowly with the weaning process.
But do not be afraid to explore the possibilites with modern meds today, many do help greatly

Wishes of luck to you
