I don't think that social status is something that one simply 'chooses' for oneself anymore than being slim slim slim in order to show off that non-pregnant belly and large hips is something that one 'chooses' for oneself.

i don't think these stereotypes are about female opression so much as the notion that what we do and do not find attractive can often be at the mercy of ancient brain structures or whatever.

but then you know what? we humans developed this (comparatively) huge cerebral cortex so that we can THINK THINK THINK and not be left to the mercy of these general purpose strategies that were adaptive long ago even though they may not be adaptive in particular situations etc.

It does make sense of the stereotype of the older (uglier) billionaer guy whith the supermodel half his age attached to his arm, huh?

Seems to me they are both getting something out of that...
