I have seen my T for about 65 sessions over 3+ years, and I have seen a lot of healing in a few different areas of my life. But I still feel as though I am just getting to the good stuff. At least with me, a lot of important things wouldn't come out in therapy until I had been seeing my T for a very long time. It takes me forever to trust people. For that particular issue, I'd say it's more beneficial to stay in therapy for a longer period. I guess it depends on the situation and what goals you are working toward.

I think that for some people, depending on desire and need, staying in therapy for a long term makes sense. It can be more of a preventative health care routine than a one-time deal to fix a problem. I don't think it's good if it fosters a source of dependence or addiction, but I see no problem with using therapy to stay connected to one's inner world.
Thanks for this!
