Hi, any type of CBT or DBT has proven effective for depression. If you have chemical depression, then meds are necessary. When you have hypochondria, some mental health professional consider that part of OCD, which psychotherapy and psychotropic medications are needed. Best of luck and hope that helps a bit. You might try St. John's Wort for dysthymia...it's an OTC supplement.
