Sentence in question: Doesn't mean you permanently change yourself, but you fit in and are able to access connections, roles, information in the world that is dominated by people.

Well, every external behaviour isn't closely tied to your personal identity, is it? A lot of social things are very superficial. They're skills, not deeply held personal views and values. They're about politeness and ritualized communication. Social face. If you went to Papua, New Guinea or any other strange place, Russia, whatever, you'd be pushed to participate in their customs whether that's eating some insect or grub or drinking horrible vodka. Doesn't have to change who you are or determine what you do in your free time. It was outside of my comfort zone to learn this stuff, but now my comfort zone is expanded. I'm still me, no deep change except loss of anxiety in dealing with this and more success and opportunities. Did I cover it, or is there some particular part that doesn't make sense?
