I work in a library. It turns out that I got one author's name wrong for a popular book, and I've been going around saying the wrong name for weeks.

The good news is I'm not panicking. But I feel so embarrassed. I have the urge to do something to correct it, and I can't, because it's not possible to correct verbal conversations.

And I've probably lost the respect of all the people I've said the wrong name to, because they might have been trying to find the book under the wrong name and not be able to find it, so they'll think that I'm an idiot who doesn't know what she's talking about. How could I have been so stupid?

What can I do to fix this?
