Can anyone tell me why my friend didn't tell me her brother died two weeks ago? She has been giving me updates on his condition almost daily for the past four years, since he was diagnosed with cancer, including the past two weeks.

I am very confused why she would make up elaborate stories the last two weeks: he's gained three pounds, he had a crisis the night before but her cell phone hasn't rung so she's hoping for the best, etc. I've talked to her husband, too, when she wasn't around and he has been saying basically the same things to me.
