i would stick with xp rather than vista, microsoft have been reluctantly forced to release the source code to the anti virus software companies after the testing done by them showed multiple flaws in the security setup, so if you have vista expect viruses and the posibility of losing all your data has fully effective anti virus software is not able yet, i would wait a couple of years to give microsoft the chance to sort out the bugs first and by then it will be cheaper.
