I am not one to base my opinion on an isolated case but there was a story yesterday about two guys that got into it in a movie theatre and one ended up shooting the other one for texting, killing him. The shooter was a retired cop, obviously trained to use guns. This is the kind of stuff that freaks me out.

One alternative is pepper spray but if you are in a situation tell the assailant before they get close that you have it because they'll most likely run. They know you aren't afraid to use it and you really don't need to be trained.
