Sometimes what helps me get past not being able to address any difficult topic is only focusing on a single aspect of a single topic. I make myself lock out all other things for a specific time period.

Example: CSA is a huge issue and having a general discussion is too overwhelming for me. What I can do is concentrate my focus on just one aspect of what happened. The WHO WHAT WHERE WHEN HOW and WHY together is too much but I can focus on one of them if I concentrate on only that aspect. My T let me work on each area until I had a better grasp of it then we would move to another hard topic. Slowly we ended up combining them together as kind of a review.

I really can not say when review became one but it did. We have used the same technique for other things too.

Now I use this technique for other things too. Planning a move across country is too overwhelming but broken down I can do it.

I hope this helps
