What you described does sound like Bipolar Disorder, but it depends. It also could be Schizoaffective Disorder. This might be best described as a mood disorder within a long period of schizophrenia. The predominant illness here is schizophrenia, with episodes of depression, mania, or a mix occuring periodically. You didn't describe any psychotic symptoms (delusions, hallucinations, etc.) but if you have them it could be Bipolar Disorder wih Psychosis, where Bipolar is the prominent disease, and when symptoms are severe there can be psychotic symptoms along with it.

Also, it is important to distinguish whether your symptoms are the result of drug abuse, medication, or a general medical condition, in which case neither Bipolar or Schizoaffective Disorder would apply. You mentioned taking 1 milligram of ativan every 2 hours or so. That's a lot of ativan, which can make you extremely irritable or make it difficult to function. That in combination with aderall, which is an amphetamine/stimulant (opposite of ativan) could be causing havoc in your system. Have you tried a mood stabilizer such as Depakote or Lithium?

I have schizoaffective disorder and it isn't schizophrenia... it's basically an affective disorder, (depression/bipolar disorder) with psychosis when symptoms of the affective disorder are not present. It's different from depression/bipolar with psychotic features because the psychosis then is a result of the mood. I just thought I would correct this quickly because it is a common misconception.
