i'm not saying that the 'alternatives' are right - but there are those that say schizophrenia doesn't exist (in the sense of a medical disease) & that it can all be framed as a psychological/spiritual crisis, with the potential of full resolution. Carl Jung concluded that the main aetiology was psychogenic in nature. In my view no one has understood more about the schizophrenic process than Jung.
Spiritual Emergency
There may well be many different things going on in what gets labelled as 'schizophrenia/psychosis'? There are no tests after all.
A whole range of people have been through the system/had 'psychotic breakdowns' & gone on to totally reject psychiatry & the labels & re-frame what they experienced in totally different terms. i could give a lot of examples.

i'm not sure that the 'alternatives' are totally right - but nor would i agree with the biomedical psychiatric view either. i'd think that we're dealing with very broad areas, that cover complex, multiple & highly individual spectrum's of experience.
How about this for a re-framing of what psychosis really is -
i had a long on-line conversation with the author at one stage. & what of Sean Blackwell, or Paul Levy? (both went through the system, were labelled as mad, & went on to totally reject biomedical psychiatry, & re-frame their experiences as spiritual crisis). [They are far from alone in that either].

Personally i would see that there are varying degrees of psychopathology & physiological/psychic disturbance - But 'we're' very far from really understanding what is really going with these conditions, even at biological/neurological/genetic levels, & i'm sure that there are psychological/emotional, social/environmental & spiritual/transpersonal levels to these conditions/experiences as well. What would account for the experiences of these other people if that wasn't the case?
