I know just how you feel. All of my family has given me a hard time about my snoring. Like you, I'm a throat snorer and nothing I do helps, including sleeping with my head elevated.
Doctors sure do take snoring seriously. The snoring can get so bad that you stop breathing and even if you don't wake up completely, when your system kicks in and you take that deep breath, it disturbs your sleep so that you don't get the rest needed. I've been aware of my sleep apnea from time to time. It seems it gets worse when I'm really stressed out.
You're not alone and there is help out there.
