I separate my voices into two separate categories. What I call Pseudo hallucinations, where the voices are just a misinterpretation of unrelated external stimuli, and what I term 'actual', or 'true' hallucinations, which to me is a glitch in my brain making me hear things that aren't really there. Apart from my first couple of psychotic type episodes though, I've more or less always had retained insight, so that has made things a lot easier for me.
