The cats I've had the privilege to know have been, overwhelmingly, great characters. I've experienced kindness, compassion, concern, worry, possessiveness, humour (even clownishness), shyness, joy, and an entire range of emotions we tend to think of as primarily (and even exclusively) human, on the part of many a kitty it has been my happiness to live with.
I do understand how a really good feline companion could assist a human to live a better, less stress-filled, life---as I have experienced the pleasure of knowing some really wonderful, gentle cats, personally, and for a VERY long time.
Furthermore, any animal who tolerates us for any length of time MUST have something very special going for them---as I consider humans to be capable of the worst kinds of atrocities and cruelty ever committed, anywhere.
Animals are not gratuitously cruel. What they do follows a natural order, and instinct.
It is people who commit the unforgivable, or who train or force animals to behave in unnatural and terrifying ways.
