I agree, see a doctor!
I'm very sensitive to people snoring, it really keeps me awake... but I would NEVER judge someone for their snoring! To me a few hours of disturbed sleep is worth the reward for all the stuff that person offers during the day. Personally, I think the person who said "we could never be lovers" was really rude. That may be an issue that needs addressing, if and when the time came... why bring it up otherwise, just to make you self conscious???
I think you should see a doctor, but do so for yourself, not for others. As many have said sleep apnea can be a problem. It might be very mild and you might not even know you have it. Even if not the doc might have some good suggestions. There are a lot of potential solutions. I've even seen advertized a spray that you spray down your throat before bed that is supposed to help or stop snoring... you might ask the doc if there is any validity to that and if it is worth a try.
In the meantime, for the people disturbed, this is nothing that you have immediate control over. If they have a problem, let them try earplugs (I tried that once on a vacation, sharing a room with friends I knew to be snorers. Worked fine... they fell out during the night but I was asleep enough by then that I got rest the rest of the night.
For the people who aren't rude about it, that you are just worried about out of consideration, maybe keep a box of earplugs in your house available for people, their choice to try them or not.
But even worst case, I do believe that "love conquers all." I have one friend that I once shared a room with, I've never heard such snoring, loud, constant. He is happily married. His wife is not oblivious to his snoring. She loves him and deals with it. After many years of marriage, he has just had surgery because of a sleep apnea problem.
Everyone does things that annoy others. It is good to be considerate about them, but don't let your "things" make you think any less of yourself.
Like Roseanne Rosannadanna said, "It's always something."
