Wondering if there are other people here whose T is using this approach to their therapy. If so, is it something that you agree with? Do you find it helpful?
My therapist is a huge believer in this model. He is always saying that he likes it so much because it demystifies DID because it works under the premise that all humans have parts to their personality (the IFS model is not so big on the "alters" description). The difference being that those with DID have been caused to fully differentiate their parts and built amnesiac walls as protection.
I personally like the explanation that everyone has parts because it makes a ton of sense. Why else would all people have so many hats that they put on at different times when faced with different situations?
My T is always talking about the different and sometimes contradictory parts within himself. It makes me feel that I'm not so alien after all.
