I think I do it more out of a compulsion, maybe not to the point of dermatillomania (...maybe) but just because I prefer the open smooth wound over the lumpy scar. Also, I choose not to make new ones because I still am content from the effects of the previous cuts as long as they are red or bloody (sorry if tmi)
