I wouldn't consider it ethical for a therapist to look in a client's bag or purse without permission.
When I forgot my bag in my T's office, he was actually kind of cute reassuring me so much that he didn't look through it. I never thought he would. (I was going to maybe ask him to store my food somewhere if I couldn't make it back to his office that day, but I did so it was okay).
