I personally don't reopen a scar. I have some sort of personal aversion to it. I don't know why. I'd rather start clean. If it's old enough that it's just a dark line, I might.

As for the itching, in a way, it's a tolerable pain and a constant reminder. Might also help me harm less. I just scratch around it. That helps.
