I'm very sensitive to medications, and was very afraid to try xanax. My pdoc started me on just 0.125 mg (half of a .25 mg pill) and I noticed that it took a slight edge off of the anxiety within 20 minutes of taking it. As I got used to the med and more comfortable with it's effects, I've increased the dose to .25 mg. It does not make me sleepy or forgetful or anything else - it just takes the edge off the anxiety and lets me focus on things other than anxiety. I'm more relaxed and able to interact with others in a more natural way.
I've also found that if my anxiety is low, I can take a low dose. If my anxiety is higher, I can take a higher dose with no ill effects. For example - normally, 0.5 mg would knock me out, but prior to an appointment that I was super anxious about, 0.5 mg made me feel like 0.25 mg usually does.
Honestly, try it during the day and see how you feel. It's probably best to try it during the day once before your interview, so you won't be worried about how it may affect you.
