Have you ever said "goodnight" to your T when you left? Is that a typical way to say goodbye? I only have night appointments and we always walk to our cars together since it is dark. I always say goodnight and she says "have a goodnight, take care of yourself" most of the time, or some variation of that. The only time she has said goodnight is if I have to text her for some reason after session and we both say goodnight.
I don't think it makes you ridiculous or childish at all! It's not as if you have to be a certain age to be allowed to say it. Therapists try to remain cordial to protect your boundaries, but I believe it is possible for some client/T relationships to be more formal and professional and others to be more casual.
