You can't control receiving bad news. It's how you deal with it. DBT is a program specifically designed to teach you these skills. I don't know about CBT.

I have what I affectionately call a "madness box" where I store a bunch of tools to help. There is a stack of reminders of things to think about to put things in perspective. And things that calm me down.
