The psy. tech....he listened, he showed me alternatives, he provided me with coping skills, he helped me to refocus, he was humourous, he was a caring professional, he showed me alternatives, he opened my mind to choices, he related to me, he empathized and sympathized with me, to sum it up....he DID his job..above and beyond!!! I would pay mega $$$ to have just him!

Yes...he made me 4 referrals...they too, were not on my wavelength as he was! This guy will always be the epitome of mental health providers!!!
From my perspective (which is very biased on this topic, I might add), it sounds like you would really benefit from a relational perspective. You mentioned that he was humorous, empathized and RELATED to you. I think so many people either don't know or underestimate the healing power of simply being understood by another human being and being accepted.

Check out the relational perspectives (don't be afraid of the words 'relational psychoanalysis....it's not the blank-slate, traditional mind-frame of lay-on-a-couch therapy. It's like psychodynamic, but with a focus on the relationship.)

I could definitely see how you would blow through many therapists if you were limiting yourself (or your area has a limited variety of approaches) to only CBT. That approach works for some but is so annoying for the rest. It's so demoralizing, in my opinion.
